CAMBS BOTANICAL 01,
59.4 X 42.0 cms,
Charcoal and graphite on cartridge paper

This Autumn, I received my first commission request. It was an absolute joy to create this work (above) – it has been such a long time since I had drawn in my style on such a large scale. For this piece, I focussed on creating an intense atmosphere, highlighting the light and shadow in the landscape creating an immersive composition.

It feels strange to be able to create at my own pace unlike the pace that of an MA degree. It is somewhat more rewarding and enjoyable, even though I did thoroughly enjoy studying, to create for others as well as for yourself without grading provides a different kind of satisfaction. My next series of work will be completed by Easter – so keep an eye out!

As a Postgraduate graduating during a pandemic, I surprisingly feel settled having recently moved to Cambridge from Aberystwyth. I’m lucky to be working as a Chef in order to rent and create a home during these uncertain times. I hope that everyone can find solace somewhere during this strange period.

I’d just like to say that my heart goes out to all of the students out there studying and attempting to keep up with the demanding pace of education, don’t forget to give yourself time to relax. 🙂
